Meet Vanessa from Bali Event Hire, the first and leading furniture rental company in Bali for weddings. In this post, she shares how she and her partner Sarah built the business, what inspires their timeless furniture collections, and tips for couples choosing the perfect pieces for their special day.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and how you became involved in the furniture rental business in Bali?

Hi everyone, I’m Vanessa, one half of the Melbourne born duo who dreamed and then founded Bali Event Hire, the first furniture rental company in Bali for Weddings - and proudly still the market leader on the island.

In our past lives, I worked in marketing, advertising and copywriting while Sarah was a recruitment wiz. We have very different but complimentary skills also really different personalities – same same but different - both visually and from a work perspective so the combo has been perfect!

What do you enjoy most about providing furniture for weddings and events?

So many things!  Weddings are so incredibly special, and we firmly believe that beautiful furniture has the power to set the scene and tone for the celebration and also reflect each couples’ unique love story. 

We love designing fresh pieces and providing our couples and wedding planners with high quality options to create that individual magic.

How would you describe the style or aesthetic of the furniture you offer for weddings?

We have a huge range in every conceivable style, but our core design aesthetic is classic and timeless.  Weddings are forever and it’s important that your styling and imagery is just as beautiful 30 years down the track.  Of course, we add trend focused pieces each year but are core range has a classic aesthetic.

What inspires your collection, and how do you incorporate clients’ preferences into your selections?

Good question.  Inspiration is everywhere but we draw heavily on the classics.  We obsess over European wedding season each year and while styling, florals and lighting change, wedding furniture remains largely unchanged each season.  So for example with our Dining Chairs we looked to European Modernism for our Louis, Como and Crossback Chairs , Mid Century beauty for our Wishbone and Bentwood’s and clean Scandinavian lines for our Nordics.

Saying that, it’s important for us to design our own pieces which compliment Bali’s tropical landscape so you will find lots of rattan and bamboo pieces which add texture and warmth to the natural environment.

Sarah and I are always open to ideas and what our couples’ and brides are looking for.  So always talk to us!

Do you have a signature piece or collection that couples particularly love

We do actually! At BEH, we use an incredible software system for all our event bookings and we’re now able to track and run reports on absolutely everything including our best-selling categories, best-selling products and best-selling colour ranges.

Not surprisingly, all our Natural pieces in every category are the clear winner – this makes Sarah happy as she will never fall out of love with recycled Teak!

What advice would you give couples when selecting furniture for their wedding or event

“You two be you Two” 

All couples are wonderfully unique and have their own personal style.  Refer to your fashion choices and the interiors in your home, this is you.  Consider a classic canvass and then get creative by adding your personality.    Saying that, if you love trends and all things OTT, go for it – “You Two be You Two”

 

How do you accommodate unique themes or specific requests from clients

We do from time to time make custom pieces, always ask us!

How do you ensure a seamless experience on the event day?

Our team (affectionately referred to as the Green Army in the Industry) are our superpower.  Most have been working for us for 12 years and they know every venue, every wedding planner and every piece of furniture like the back of their hands.  They arrive early, they move fast, they smile a lot and they all stay onsite throughout your entire event just in case you need anything moved at any moment.

How do you handle last-minute changes or challenges during an event?

Things happen from time from time, it’s life after all.  We always have extra furniture just in case and our team are excellent problem solvers, so we always find a solution.  We’ve had to move entire set ups mid event due to rain and couples and guests barely miss a beat! 

Can you share a story about how your furniture added a unique touch to a wedding or event?

Yes!  I had a big party last year with my husband and we had a giant Magazine Photobooth produced for it.  We had decals created which referred to funny things pertaining to me, my husband and us as a couple.  It was massive hit for guests and now we rent it all the time!

Are there any trends in event furniture that you find exciting or innovative?

For us, 2025 is all about ‘relaxed luxury’ – neutral tones, organic, recycled and sustainable materials, rounded edges, flowing lines and unique layouts which mix different styles and textures.

Adding immersive experiences for guests and personal touches is also having it’s time in the sun.

And this is the fun part – in Bali, if you can dream it, you can do it!

How do you see your furniture rental business evolving in the next few years?

As they say in business, ‘innovate or die’ . Sounds harsh but it’s a good mantra to keep in the back of your mind when you have a business.  Our team have been working really hard behind the scenes for the last 2 years on creating new processes and streamlining workflow and reporting.  We will redesign one of our warehouses, add more trucks to our fleet, increase our inhouse servicing team and as always we work daily on created a fantastic culture – happy, respected and appreciated team members will go over and above, every time (and ours certainly do!)

BEH is growing from strength to strength and Sarah and I still love everything about the business and we’re definitely still living our dream lives!
