Talking To Bali Wedding Vendors: Episode 8 - Evermotion

Hey everyone! We’re super excited to share this Q&A with the amazing team at Evermotion Photography. If you’re looking for wedding photos that truly capture the raw, real emotions of your big day, you’re in for a treat. In this chat, the Evermotion crew opens up about how they got started, what fuels their passion for weddings, and what makes their photos so special. Let’s dive in

Can you tell us a little about yourself and how you ended up getting into the photography world? What was the spark that led you to focus on weddings and events?

Hey everyone, Evermotion here! We’re excited to share a bit of our story with you. The journey began with a hobby that my wife and I shared. I’ve always been drawn to the way a single image can preserve a moment in time. It all started with capturing for friends and family—doing a pre-wedding session for my sister or a wedding for a friend. In 2008, I worked with other wedding photography companies based in Bali and Jakarta as a freelance photographer. Those experiences allowed me to refine my skills, understand the wedding industry, and develop my own artistic approach. Along the way, I met my now Evermotion family—a group of talented gentlemen who shared the same passion. These creatives are dedicated to telling stories through photography, and by 2013, Evermotion was born.

We’re curious—what's the best part about photographing weddings and events? Is it the excitement of the big day, the beautiful couples, or something else entirely that gets you pumped?

For us, wedding photography isn’t just about capturing beautiful images; it’s about understanding the significance of the day for our clients. While weddings have become part of our daily routine, we always remind ourselves that for each couple, this is likely their first and only experience. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime moment filled with so many emotions, and we feel honored to be part of it. What truly excites us is the raw, genuine emotions that are always present at a wedding—from the nervous bride to the excitement of the friends, overwhelming joy during the vows, tears during the father’s first look, and heartfelt moments shared with families. It’s all real, unscripted, and deeply meaningful. No two weddings are ever the same.

If you had to describe your photography style to someone who’s never seen your work, how would you explain it? Do you go for timeless, candid moments or something a little more dramatic and posed?

Our style is all about capturing natural, candid moments while keeping things as relaxed and comfortable as possible. We focus on genuine emotions, shared connections, and the little in-between moments that truly tell a couple’s story. Of course, we do include some posed shots along the way, but we make sure they feel natural—especially since most of our clients aren’t used to being in front of the camera.

We know that inspiration can come from anywhere—so what inspires your work? And how do you bring your clients’ personalities and preferences into the photos, making sure they’re uniquely them?

We always look up to other people’s work, especially artists who have already worked around the world and shared different stories with their unique challenges. What also inspires us is the connection between people; every couple has a unique dynamic. We take the time to understand our clients, whether through casual conversations before we start the day or simply observing how they interact. Some couples are playful and full of energy, while others are more reserved and intimate. We adapt our approach to match their vibe and energy, ensuring that the photos feel uniquely theirs.

Is there a particular type of photo or moment that couples can’t get enough of? You know, one that always gets a “wow” reaction when they see it?

There are definitely certain moments that always get that “wow” reaction from our couples. One of the biggest is the raw, emotional moments—like when they see each other for the first time, whether it’s during a first look or as one walks down the aisle. The spontaneous laugh, a tearful hug from a parent, or a quiet, intimate glance shared between the couple. These are the photos that bring back not just memories, but the actual emotions of the day. Of course, couples also love those epic, beautifully framed portraits where they look effortlessly in love, but what surprises them the most is how much they cherish the unplanned moments—the ones they didn’t even realize were happening until they see the photos.

For couples who are trying to pick the perfect photographer for their wedding, what advice would you give them? Any tips on finding someone who really clicks with their vision (no pun intended)?

Choosing the right wedding team is more than just finding someone with great photos/videos. Every photo and video company will post their iconic portfolios on social media and choose the best of them. Here are some tips we’d like to share:

  • Look beyond the portfolio. Make sure their approach aligns with what you envision for your wedding. If you’ve already chosen your wedding venue, it’s also a good idea to ask for some samples of weddings they’ve captured at that venue—the full story, from preparation to reception, so you know what to expect.

  • Contact or talk with them. Have a conversation, ask about their process.

  • Consider their approach. See how they handle the wedding; some focus on documenting, others on dramatic poses. Each style has its own market, so make sure their style aligns with yours.

  • Ask a friend or family member for advice, but remember that every couple has their own preferences.

  • Trust your gut. In the end, photography and videography are personal choices. If you feel a connection, that’s a good sign.

Wedding day stress is real, so how do you make sure everything runs smoothly? How do you ensure your clients can relax and focus on enjoying their big day?

First, for us, it’s all about being prepared. We always read the rundown and details carefully before we start the day. We always remind our couples that nothing can ruin your wedding except yourself. Things might not always go exactly as planned—maybe the weather changes, the timeline shifts, or small details don’t go as expected—but if you embrace the moment, your photos will reflect the joy. Our role is to help couples stay present and enjoy the experience. We focus on capturing the moments rather than forcing perfection. Sometimes, we ask them to shake off the stress and remind them that this is one of the biggest moments in their life.

Last-minute changes always seem to pop up, especially during an event. How do you handle those curveballs and keep the day going without a hitch?

Weddings are unpredictable, and last-minute changes are almost inevitable. But we never let them become a source of stress. We’re always flexible and adapt. Since we’ve been part of so many weddings, we understand the importance of making the best of every situation. The key is to understand how the changes will affect our work and find solutions together as a team—including the wedding planner—while keeping the energy positive.

Can you share an unforgettable story where your photography added something truly special to a wedding or event? A moment that was just pure magic!

There have been so many unforgettable moments, but one that really stands out is when a couple had planned and communicated with us for months for a pre-wedding session. They both had very strict schedules and limited time for the session, so after months of chats, calls, emails, and planning, we decided on a date. It was the only date that worked for both us and the clients. When the day came, it was raining nonstop. We searched and asked everyone we could to see if there was any area where it wasn’t raining at the time. Unfortunately, with limited time, we had to stick with the plan. We talked to them and shared that the only thing they could do was embrace the moment, enjoy the rain, walk, and be happy. Amazingly, it turned out to be so beautiful, and the vibe was magical. They were both so happy with the result.

Photography trends are always changing! Are there any new or exciting trends you’re really excited about right now, or maybe something you’re seeing a lot more of in the wedding world?

Wedding photography/videography trends are always evolving, especially with social media these days. So many requests come from what couples have seen in viral Instagram posts. The trend right now is leaning toward more candid moments, while also adding some motion blur effects where a bit of intentional blur is added to capture movement and energy. We’re also seeing couples embrace film-like tones and nostalgic aesthetics.

Where do you see your photography business going in the next few years? Any big plans or exciting projects on the horizon that we can look forward to?

Over the past few years, our team’s journey has grown from just one to a family of creatives at Evermotion. Looking ahead, we want to continue building that, reaching more couples, and keeping our technique on track. One of our biggest goals is to take Evermotion to new destinations, capturing love stories in different parts of the world. We’ve been to a few other countries as a team, but we’d love to explore more. While we have bigger dreams, one thing will always stay the same: our love for capturing real emotions that couples will cherish forever.

For couples who are interested in working with you, what’s the best way to get in touch? Do you offer any fun packages or promotions they should know about?

The best way for couples to get in touch with us is through our website or social media. We love hearing about their vision, their story, and what they’re looking for in their wedding. As for our packages, we focus on creating a personalized experience rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. We offer different options based on the couple’s needs and are also happy to customize packages to fit their unique requirements. It’s always a good idea to reach out to us to see what’s possible. We’re more than happy to assist!

Thanks so much to the Evermotion team for sharing their story with us! We hope you enjoyed hearing about what goes into their photography and how they bring each couple's unique vibe to life. If you're looking for a photographer who really gets what makes your day special, definitely check them out here. Stay tuned for more amazing wedding insights coming your way!
